BumbleBee Summer Tennis Camp in NYC

Tennis

The BumbleBee Tennis Camp is perfect for beginners and advanced beginners between the ages of 2.5 and 14 years who want to learn and improve on their tennis skills. The tennis camp will build a foundation of the core tennis skills including the forehand, backhand, volley, and serve. In addition, exercises will focus to improve on other tennis related skills such as hand-eye coordination, timing, stamina, and reflexes. The tennis drills, based on the QuickStart tennis program put forth by the USTA, allow for instant tennis success. Tennis can be a difficult sport to learn, but with our specially designed tennis activities, students are playing the game of tennis quicker than ever!

Swimming

Afternoon tennis camps include 1 hour of swimming!  Morning camps will be strictly tennis (no swimming).

Note: Swimming will take place at the Metropolitan Recreation Center.  Students will need a free pool permit from here by the parent guardian going there and filling out a form.  Estimated time is only a few minutes.  Please make sure to do this so that your child will be able to participate in the swimming.  The permit can even be filled out the day of the camp on your way.  More details on this to come.

Weekly Schedule of Activities

This was the agenda schedule that we followed last year and we will most likely follow this year, but we will modify and update this as we see necessary to make the tennis camp more effective for your kids.

  • Monday: Forehand and Volley Focus and getting familiar with the tennis racquet and court
  • Tuesday: Backhand Focus
    • Review of Forehand and Volleys
  • Wednesdays: Serving and Footwork Focus
    • Review of Forehand, Volleys and Backhands
  • Thursdays: Tennis Scoring & Strategy Focus
    • Review of Forehand, Volleys and Backhands and Serve
  • Friday: Tennis Carnival & Games.  Kids rotate and play against the other players.

Court Set Up & Equipment

We have outdoor tennis courts as well as indoor locations (large gymnasiums), in which we setup a complete tennis court that matches the skills, sizes, and abilities of young children. Using the Quickstart method established by the USTA, the shorter nets and smaller racquets and balls enable children 10 and under to learn tennis in an easier, more fun way. Scaling down the game enables children to feel overjoyed, instead of overwhelmed and provides them with the confidence and ability to cover the entire court. Mini Aces classes use 1/2 of the full sized tennis court.

  • Court- Mini nets are 18′ long and 2.9′ tall, allowing us to put as many as 4 nets on one full size court.
  • Racquets- In all of our youth tennis programs, we ask that youth racquets be used not only to prevent injury, but to also make it easier for students to have control of their movements. Children 7-10 year olds can use 23″ or 25″ racquets. We have racquet rentals available for $2/lesson if your child needs one.
  • Balls- Regulation tennis balls are too heavy for smaller racquets, in addition to being too fast and bouncy. Foam or low-compression balls move slower and bounce less, so students can practice volleying and work on hand-eye coordination.

This camp for our beginner to experienced beginner Tiny Tennis and Mini Aces Players use the Quickstart USTA tennis teaching methods and court setup.  Each group will have their own Quickstart modified sized tennis court that matches the skills and abilities of young children.  Coupled with our instruction and tennis drills, students instantly start playing tennis.

Cancellation Policy

If you would like to cancel your week of camp, please email us at info@bumblebeetennis.com.

Missing days during your camp session:

Missed days during your camp session cannot be made up since students only attend camp during that specified week. However, your notification of an absence is greatly appreciated. Summer Camp Refunds: If your child cannot make it to summer camp the week that you have signed up for, see the below guidelines or consider moving your child’s camp to another available week.  Due to high demand and limited number of spaces in our camp, we appreciate ample notice of any cancellations.  We strictly follow our refund policy which is much more flexible than the standard camp refund policy of other camps.

Changing your week of summer camp

  • 24+ days prior to camp- No Fee.
  • 14-23 days prior to camp- $25 rescheduling service fee per student per week.
  • 7-13 days prior to camp- $45 rescheduling service fee per student per week.

For more information on our cancellation policy and switching weeks, please see our cancellation page.

Weather Policy

The tennis portion of the camp is completely outdoors.  Unfortunately we do not have another indoor tennis location that we can have access to for a last minute rain issue.  Therefore in case of rain during the camp, you have the option to pick up your child and do a rain make-up drop in on another week.

In Case of Rain Before the Camp

In case of rain before the camp, camp will be canceled for the entire day and we will notify you via recorded voice message and email.  You can make up the day on another day that fits your schedule at the same location/camp type, as long as there is space available.

In Case of Rain During the Camp

In case it rains during the camp we will notify you via pre-recorded voice message that you can pick up your child.  In case it rains within 2 hours of the camp (meaning it rains between 9:45am-11:45am) and you pick up your child before the end time, you will receive a make up day for use as a drop in on another day at the same location on a schedule of your choosing, space permitting.  Less than 15 minutes of camp left will not receive a make up day.

*In case of emergency and you are unable to pick up your child until the end of the session, we will stay with your child until you arrive.   We recommend on those chance of rain days to stay near the class for instant pickup. Students who stay for the rest of the day (are not picked up) will not receive a makeup day.

Setting Up Your Camp Rain-Out Drop in Day

Just email (info@bumblebeetennis.com) or call the office with the day you would like to do a rain make up drop in.  Space permitting we will add you to the roster for that day.  We are offering camp here for 10 weeks, so there will be many potential days for you to make it up!  Although we offer rain out drop ins, we do not allow general one day camp sign ups or moving one day of camp to another week.

For more information on our weather policy, please see our Weather Policy page.
